Senior Analytics Engineer – Power BI & Fabric Specialist
We’re looking for: Senior Analytics Engineer – Power BI & Fabric Specialist
Background:
Inter IKEA Systems is strengthening Business Insights and the Self-Service Data Platform (SSDP) to support centrally managed reporting, governed self-service, data products, and CORE-related delivery for IKEA retailers. Business Insights is developing and operating reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, while SSDP is establishing a governed and scalable platform for domain-owned data products. This role replaces and strengthens a key Business Insights capability that is being lost. It is intended to protect continuity across reporting delivery, migration activities, CORE reporting, franchisee onboarding, and governed analytics, while also contributing to SSDP consumption patterns, reusable semantic models, and Microsoft Fabric best practices. The consultant’s primary home will be Business Insights, with a planned secondary contribution to SSDP based on priorities.
The scope of the consultant services is to assist IKEA in:
• Strengthen end-to-end Business Insights delivery using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
• Design governed, reusable semantic models and consumption-ready analytical assets.
• Support reporting migration, CORE-related delivery, franchisee reporting, and self-service enablement.
• Contribute to SSDP Gold-layer, certified-dataset, and governed-consumption standards.
The main tasks in the assignment are as below:
• Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and analytical datasets.
• Translate business requirements into analytical models, measures, reports, and actionable insights.
• Build scalable and reusable semantic models aligned with governed data-product principles.
• Use Microsoft Fabric capabilities such as Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, notebooks, and semantic models where relevant.
• Improve report performance, usability, data quality, security, and maintainability.
• Drive standardized report design, reusable components, and common data-modeling practices.
• Support testing, validation, release preparation, stakeholder demonstrations, documentation, and onboarding.
• Collaborate with SSDP to define consumption-ready patterns, including Gold-layer standards, certified datasets, and Direct Lake usage.
• Support franchisee implementation, governed self-service, and report access where needed.
• Share knowledge and coach colleagues to reduce single-person dependency.
Desired knowledge, experience, competence, skills etc:
• Hands-on experience with Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, or notebooks.
• Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, or similar modern data platforms.
• Deployment pipelines, Git integration, and release management for BI assets.
• Data-product thinking, data contracts, and governed self-service analytics.
• Row-level security, object-level security, and access control in Power BI and Fabric, ideally in multi-entity or franchisee contexts.
• Enterprise BI migration experience.
• Relevant certifications such as PL-300 or DP-600.
• Able and willing to work across both Business Insights and SSDP, with approximately 20–30% allocation to the secondary team as priorities require.
• Comfortable working in a platform-building environment where not everything is fully defined.
• Creates clear documentation, reusable patterns, and knowledge-sharing practices as part of normal delivery.
• Collaborates effectively with technical and business stakeholders, including IKEA retailer and franchisee contacts where relevant.
• Works transparently with backlogs, priorities, delivery plans, and agile ways of working.
• Communicates clearly in English and actively reduces single-person dependency.
Following competences must be fulfilled:
• Strong hands-on Power BI development experience, including report design, governed self-service, and workspace management.
• Expert-level DAX, data modeling, dimensional modeling, and semantic-model design.
• Strong analytics-engineering mindset, including version-controlled, testable, and reusable analytical assets.
• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience, or strong Power BI and Azure data-platform experience with demonstrated ability to become effective in Fabric quickly.
• Experience with report performance optimization, data validation, and maintainable solution design.
• Ability to translate business needs into practical analytical solutions and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills.
• Minimum approximately six years of relevant BI or analytics-engineering experience.
