Senior Hands-on Platform Engineer (Observability) - Wcar
We're Looking for a Senior Hands-on Platform Engineer in the Area of Observability
Team Beacons is building the new Observability Platform for WirelessCar. The mission of the team is twofold: the team is both responsible to build and operate the observability stack, as well as being advocates for the observability standards and practices of WirelessCar.
The Role
As a Platform Engineer, you drive the design, implementation, and operations of observability capabilities at WirelessCar. The stack should cater for allowing systems running in both our exisiting developer environment as well as our new developer platform Drive. You work closely with the rest of the team to ensure that usability, scalability, and performance is taken into account from the start. As a team member of Team Beacons, you shape and maintain the observability stack by gathering feedback from real users, implement new capabilities, and ensure everything runs smoothly. Collaboration is key. The team needs persons that have the ability and desire to both play the role of developer advocate as well being the one implementing and operating the observability stack. The observability stack is under heavy development and has deadlines to meet. This means that all team members are required to have a mindset and desire to learn fast, thrive in ambiguous environments, and have capacity for action where its needed the most without waiting for the circumstances to be perfect.
Key Responsibilities
• Drive the implementation of the observability stack at WirelessCar.
• Understand the users' daily challenges by active engagement and developer community discussions.
• Be a strong advocate for Observability at WirelessCar, including documenting paved paths and best practices.
• Design, build, and maintain the stack for maximum ease of use and efficient operations over time.
• Keep up with the constant evolution of technologies from the OpenTelemetry ecosystem.
• Be ready to operate the observability stack in production, providing 24/7 support on a rotating ISL basis.
Qualifications
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a desire to work with developer advocacy in the area of observability.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with the LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir).
• Familiarity with or interest in, AWS, including CloudFormation.
• Strong, documented problem-solving skills and a preference for learning by doing.
Standing Out
Anything of the following will give you an edge:
• Knowledge or interest in operating or implementing other observability tooling.
• Familiarity with, or interest in working with ECS and Docker.
• Familiarity with, or interest in learning Python.
• Familiarity with, or interest in learning Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with, or interest in, the technologies within the CNCF-system.
