Backend Engineer
We are now looking for a Backend Engineer on the behalf of our client.
Background/Scope of work:
- Retail Concept Operations organisation delivers digital capabilities for areas delivering the IKEA retail concept to IKEA retailers. Some of the core deliverables are IKEA.net, IKEA.com, the SKAPA digital design system, Store Planning and Optimisation, the VISA digital retail experience, MyLearning, and the IKEA Knowledge graph.
- The Merchandise & Commercial Planning team is responsible for the ways of working and tools that enable more than 8,000 co workers across our stores worldwide to plan and design our physical customer meeting points.
- Now, we’re taking the next step. We are building a digital hub that will become the starting point for all store planning. A place where co workers can begin their planning journey, find inspiration from how others have designed their spaces, and get a clear overview of their own store performance and setup.
- At the heart of this hub will be:
- Interactive 3D layouts that bring store plans to life
- Relevant data and insights to support better decisions
- A seamless experience that connects inspiration, planning, and execution

- The backend developer is to be knowledgeable in:
- Headless CMS (e.g. Contentful)
- Regular backend for front-end
- Node.js/ Java/C#
- REST API design & documentation (OpenAPI / Swagger)

- CI/CD workflow
- Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform)
- Database technologies & SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL)
- Containers & cloud (Docker, Azure Container Apps, Azure Blob, Managed Identity)
- Single Sign-On & authorization flows (e.g. Cloudflare Access, JWT / JWKS)
- RBAC Workflows
- Accessibility
- Information Security and Data Privacy[M(1.1]
- AI-assisted spec-driven development
- Schema validation (e.g. Zod)
- Bonus / nice-to-have:
- AI / MCP integrations (e.g. @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, Anthropic & OpenAI SDKs)

- The core requirements of the candidate:
- A team player who is willing to put the work in to build a cross tool integration, versatile with Open API development. Working together with the team to find optimal solutions and adapt to end-user needs.
- Understand information flow between systems with an integration focus between systems and databases. We focus on having a clean solution and need someone who can adapt to our architecture and build upon it.

Location: Malmö (needs to be onsite at least 3 days/week)
